Police detained a 54-year-old man in Odesa region on suspicion that he had conspired with an unknown person to organize a scheme to smuggle men liable for military service abroad with forged documents of unfitness for service.
This was reported by the press service of the Main Department of the National Police in Odesa region.
The detainee offered one client to obtain a conclusion of the military medical commission on his unfitness for military service and exclusion from military registration. In particular, he promised to successfully pass the military medical examination in one of the medical institutions in the neighboring region. The organizer asked for $18,000 for fake documents that would allow the man to leave Ukraine without hindrance during martial law.
During the transfer of funds, the offender's activities were stopped. The police seized the money as material evidence, and the offender was detained in accordance with the procedural procedure. Based on the collected evidence, investigators served the man a notice of suspicion of organizing illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine by a group of persons by prior conspiracy. If his guilt is proven, the man faces imprisonment for up to nine years with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years with confiscation of property. The court imposed on the suspect a measure of restraint in the form of detention with the right to be released on bail.
