The Primorskyi Court of Odesa found now-retired Rear Admiral Dmytro Shakur guilty of high treason and sentenced him to 15 years in prison.

The court passed the sentence on January 27.

The admiral evaded military service and joined the Russian armed forces, harming Ukraine's national security. The sentence will come into force after the appeal period expires.

In March 2014, he asked to be retired under the pretext of undergoing a military medical examination, which is required in such cases. After that, he served in various positions for the occupiers. Now he is discharged from military service and is in the occupied Crimea. In July 2016, the Military Prosecutor's Office of the Southern Region notified the former rear admiral of suspicion of desertion and high treason.

Earlier, the Kyiv District Court of Odesa sentenced the current and former servicemen to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property for treason.

According to the case, in October 2022, an officer of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation in Bryansk region recruited a man who had just been mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The latter, in turn, recruited his friend. This is a former military man who used to live in Kharkiv, but after his house was bombed, he moved to Podilsk (formerly Kotovsk), Odesa region.

Another resident of the town of Tatarbunary in Odesa region was found guilty of treason committed under martial law and sentenced to 15 years in prison.

And the Security Service of Ukraine detained a man who, according to investigators, was preparing to set fire to a military facility in Izmail, Odesa region. As investigators found out, the detainee was searching for and transmitting the coordinates of local Defense Forces facilities, and later received a task to set one of them on fire. He was a 41-year-old unemployed resident of Izmail who was hiding from mobilization.
