Military authorities investigated why a MiG-29 fighter jet crashed in the Odesa region. One theory is that the missile did not function as intended. The State Bureau of Investigations (DBR) is now looking into the matter.
This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigations (DBR).
The Ukrainian Air Force Command conducted an internal investigation. It forwarded the results to the DBR, where they are currently being reviewed.
Among the possible causes cited in the report is the malfunction of a guided missile. However, according to the DBR, this theory still needs to be confirmed. This will require expert analysis as part of a criminal investigation.

Investigators have ordered several expert analyses. In particular, specialists are examining the aircraft’s flight data recorder, also known as the “black box.”
The State Bureau of Investigations noted that final conclusions will be drawn only after the results of all expert analyses have been received and evaluated.
The plane crash occurred on the evening of August 10, 2026, in the Berezivsky District of the Odesa region. A MiG-29 of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was carrying out a combat mission—destroying enemy drones.
An emergency situation arose during the mission. The aircraft caught fire, and the pilot lost control. He managed to eject, and his life is not in danger.
In connection with the crash, the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) has opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 416 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This provision pertains to violations of flight rules, flight preparation, and aircraft operation that resulted in the crash.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
