In the mountains near Yalta, firefighters have been unable to extinguish a forest fire for 11 days

In Yalta, a forest fire in the mountains has been burning for 11 days. The occupying authorities have classified it as a "regional-scale natural disaster."

The fire broke out near the Autka neighborhood. It is known that firefighters are battling the blaze in three separate areas. Their work is complicated by the fact that the flames are difficult to reach due to steep slopes and rocky outcrops. 

The fire near Yalta began on the night of August 19. Initially, the burned area was estimated at several hectares; it then grew to 10 hectares, and by August 21, it had reached 50 hectares. Local residents are complaining about smog over the city and difficulty breathing.

Earlier, the occupying administration sought volunteers to help fight the fire. People aged 18 and older with no health issues are permitted to participate in emergency response efforts.

Clumpsof palm oil were previously discovered in the water off the Crimean coast and on the peninsula’s beaches. The source of the pollution has not yet been identified. 

The Black Sea-Azov Sea Maritime Administration of “Rosprirodnadzor” under the occupation authorities confirmed the presence of palm oil in the waters off Crimea and Sevastopol. They stated that they had recorded the pollution, but that the occupying authorities should take appropriate measures.

Earlier, twoearthquakes were recorded near occupied Crimea within a 24-hour period. Both epicenters were located in the Black Sea near the southern coast of the peninsula.
