The Military Counterintelligence Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine detained a resident of Chornomorsk, Odesa Oblast, in the Kyiv region on suspicion of collaborating with Russian intelligence agencies.
This was reported by the SBU press service.
According to the investigation, the detainee was involved in one of the largest Russian attacks on the Ukrainian capital, which took place on May 24, 2026. In addition, following that attack, she was preparing new Russian strikes on Kyiv.
As the investigation revealed, an unemployed resident of Chornomorsk in the Odesa region, who had been recruited by the enemy, was responsible for guiding Russian drones and missiles. To carry out her espionage mission, the woman arrived at a hotel complex on the coast of the Kyiv Sea under the pretext of a tourist vacation.
There, she settled into a room overlooking the reservoir and installed a phone camera in the window with remote access for the FSB. In this way, Russian intelligence officers hoped to track the locations and combat operations of Ukrainian air defense forces online during a Russian attack.
According to the case file, if the coordinates of the Defense Forces’ anti-aircraft missile systems and mobile fire groups were detected, the Russians planned to carry out combined strikes against them. After the nighttime shelling of the city on May 24, the agent suspended her activities but later received a new assignment to coordinate further shelling of the Ukrainian capital.
SBU officers detained her while she was setting up a new observation post in a hotel room near the Kyiv Sea. It was established that the Russian special services recruited the suspect via a Telegram channel advertising easy money. During searches of the detainee’s belongings, two smartphones, a laptop, and rough notes containing evidence of her work for the enemy were seized.
Security Service investigators informed her that she is suspected of high treason committed under martial law. The detainee is currently in custody. She faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
