A well-known Crimean movement has ceased operations after 10 years of activity

On July 21, the civic movement "Crimean Solidarity" announced that it was ceasing its activities on the occupied peninsula after ten years of work. The reason was the organization's inclusion on the list of foreign agents.
This is stated in the organization’s announcement.
On June 26, 2026, the Russian Ministry of Justice added the “Crimean Solidarity” civic movement to the register of foreign agents.
“We have carefully studied the legislation and made a joint decision to cease the activities of our civic movement,” the activists said.
According to them, this step was necessary but extremely difficult to take. From now on, the movement’s website and social media pages will no longer be updated, and this statement will be the organization’s final public announcement.
“Crimean Solidarity” explained that it plans to challenge the decision of the state authorities through legal channels. The activists emphasized that designating the movement as a “foreign agent” has not changed their values, but under the current circumstances, they do not see a way to continue their activities in their previous format.
Representatives of the movement called the inclusion in the “foreign agents” registry an act of political pressure aimed at discrediting an independent civic initiative.
They noted that for ten years they had documented cases of political persecution in Crimea, supported the families of political prisoners, provided legal assistance, and reported on the situation on the occupied peninsula.
The activists also pointed out that many members of the movement have faced fines, administrative arrests, and criminal prosecution, while some of their colleagues—human rights defenders, journalists, and volunteers—remain in detention.
