SBU officers detained an FSB agent in the Mykolaiv region who, after deserting his unit, had returned to military service to carry out the enemy’s orders. While serving in an artillery brigade, the traitor directed the occupiers’ missile and drone strikes against the positions and logistical facilities of the Defense Forces in the Odesa and Mykolaiv regions.

This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.

The man was detained at his place of duty. His espionage activities were documented. He faces life imprisonment.

During searches, a smartphone containing evidence of his work for the Russian special services was seized from him. SBU officers also carried out comprehensive measures to ensure the safety of Defense Forces personnel in the area of Russian espionage activity.

According to the investigation, the soldier made contact with the enemy after leaving his military unit without permission and seeking “easy money” on Telegram. After being recruited, the deserter returned to duty to begin carrying out espionage tasks. In this way, the enemy sought to obtain not only Google Maps marked with Ukrainian targets but also the personal data of command personnel from Ukrainian Armed Forces units participating in combat on the southern front.

Earlier, a community leader in the Kherson region, who had coordinated Russian attacks in the area, was sentenced. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
