Verkhovna Rada establishes investigative commission on Russian crimes against journalists

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has established a Temporary Investigation Commission to investigate war crimes, such as murder, injury, abduction and torture, against Ukrainian journalists and media workers.
This was announced by MP Yevhenia Kravchuk.
Kravchuk was elected as the head of the PIC, and Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, head of the parliamentary committee on freedom of speech, became her deputy. The commission includes the heads of key committees and MPs from different factions.
The main tasks of the PIC are to verify the facts, interact with state and international institutions, and ensure parliamentary control over investigations.
Yevheniia Kravchuk emphasized that the purpose of the PIC is not to replace the work of law enforcement, but to ensure public oversight, public awareness of crimes against the media and to create a platform for international cooperation.
Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine dismissed two ministers at once during a meeting on November 19: Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko and Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk .
Neither Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko, Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk, nor Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko showed up to report to the parliament, which angered MPs.
On November 10, the NABU announced a special operation to expose corruption in the energy sector. The investigation found that members of a criminal organization had built a large-scale scheme to influence strategic public sector enterprises, including Energoatom.
Employees of the Anti-Corruption Bureau conducted searches at the premises of businessman and co-owner of the Kvartal 95 studio Timur Mindich, as well as the Minister of Justice Herman Galushchenko, who previously served as the Minister of Energy.
On November 11, law enforcement officers detained five people as part of an investigation into corruption in the energy sector, and seven people were notified of suspicion. In particular, a businessman - the head of a criminal organization, a former adviser to the Minister of Energy, the executive director for physical protection and security of NNEGC Energoatom, as well as four people - employees of the back office for money laundering.
