SBU exposes Russian general who participated in Kherson occupation

The Security Service of Ukraine has collected evidence against Major General Oleksandr Kornev, commander of the 7th Air Assault (Mountain) Division of the Southern Military District of Russia, who participated in the temporary occupation of Kherson region at the beginning of the full-scale war.
This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.
It has been established that on February 24, 2022, the suspect commanded his division, which, together with other units of the Dnipro military group, took part in the invasion and occupation of Kherson region. On the first day of the full-scale invasion, units of his division entered the territory of Kherson region from the temporarily occupied Crimea.
After seizing the region, the occupiers isolated it, creating a humanitarian crisis, and launched massive repressions against local residents. As a result of these hostile actions, thousands of civilians, including women and children, were killed and wounded, and hundreds of civilian infrastructure facilities were destroyed and damaged.
Among other things, on the orders of the Russian general, his subordinates set up checkpoints on the roads of Kherson region, which they used to abduct people and "confiscate" private property.
Based on the evidence gathered, SBU investigators served Kornev a notice of suspicion in absentia under Part 2 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 437 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (crimes of aggression committed by prior conspiracy by a group of persons).
In particular, at a checkpoint with the European Union, law enforcement officers detained a Ukrainian citizen who had betrayed the state. After the occupation of Crimea, he received a Russian passport, signed a contract with the aggressor country and fought against Ukraine.
At the end of March 2024, in the context of a full-scale war, the man deliberately signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense to serve in the mobilization reserve. Later, he served in Russian troops as a scout and then as an operator of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
During his service, the traitor took part in hostilities on the side of the occupiers, in particular in the temporarily occupied territory of the Kherson region. For these actions, the man was served a notice of suspicion of treason in absentia (Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), put on the international wanted list and detention was chosen as a measure of restraint in absentia.
