Russian Attack on Kherson University Causes Damage and Injuries

On the morning of February 8, Russian troops attacked the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports of Kherson State University.

The rector of the institution, Oleksandr Spivakovsky, released a photo of the aftermath of the attack, which shows damaged windows and the roof of the building.

He emphasized that the university building was completely empty, calling the shelling another act of barbarism on the part of the Russians.

KhersonState University is a higher education institution in Kherson. It is one of the oldest educational institutions in southern Ukraine.

On the same day, as a result of the Russian attack, Kherson was left without electricity.

According to Roman Mrochko, head of the Kherson MBA, power lines were damaged in the Dniprovsky district, leaving part of the private sector without electricity.

Russian shelling also resulted in injuries among civilians. Three women aged 32 and 57 and an 11-year-old child were injured. The victims sustained contusions, mine-blast and craniocerebral injuries, and the child also suffered an acute stress reaction.

A 58-year-old woman also sustained mine-blast and craniocerebral injuries and contusion.

Kherson Regional Military Administration reported that the mother and child were rescued from the fire. Their lives are currently not in danger.

On February 7, Russian troops attacked 37 localities in Kherson region. Residential areas, social and critical infrastructure came under fire and air strikes. The attacks damaged two apartment buildings, seven private houses, a gas pipeline, an outbuilding and a car. As a result of the Russian aggression, one person was killed and five others were injured. The victim of the shelling was a gas service worker who went to repair damaged networks in the Dniprovsky district of Kherson.
