A resident of the Kherson region who took part in the so-called "referendum" has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
This was reported by the press service of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office.
The post says that under the public prosecution of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office, a resident of Skadovsk district was found guilty of collaboration (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 5 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The court sentenced him to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property. He was also deprived of the right to hold elected positions in local government bodies, to engage in activities related to the organization and conduct of elections and referendums for a period of 10 years.
The investigation proved that in September 2022, the convict joined a "precinct election commission" operating in the village of Shevchenkove, Skadovsk district. The task of the illegal body was to prepare and hold a so-called referendum on the accession of Kherson region to the Russian Federation as a subject.
The man made door-to-door visits to community residents, engaged them in "voting," and campaigned in favor of the aggressor state. He made sure that people put the "right marks" in the ballots, kept records of those who "agreed to join the Russian Federation".
The verdict was passed in absentia, and the convict will serve his sentence after his arrest.
The special pre-trial investigation was carried out by investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine in Kherson region.
Earlier it was reported that a former police officer was sentenced in Kherson. He helped the occupiers control the city and monitor local residents.
It was also reported that during the occupation of a village in Kherson region, a local resident not only served the Russian military but also helped them with accommodation in other people's homes. She was found guilty and sentenced to a term of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
