A petition to award the title of Hero of Ukraine (posthumously) to Odesa resident Colonel Kostyantyn Oborin, who goes by the call sign "Kamikaze," has collected 25,000 signatures and is now to be considered by the president.

This was reported on the website of the Presidential Office.

Kostiantyn Oborin, the head of the NGO "Territorial Branch of the Union of Afghanistan Veterans of Odesa," was killed on July 18 while performing a combat mission. On July 23, the funeral service was held.

Konstantin Oborin served under the call sign "Kamikaze" and, as Kateryna Nozhevnikova recalled, every year he traveled to Kyiv to get permission to continue his service, because he was already over 60 years old.

He ran for the Odesa City Council three times: in 1998, 2002, and 2006, but was not elected. In September 2022, as the head of the Odesa Flying Club, Kostiantyn Oborin took to the skies to scatter the ashes of his student, Hero of Ukraine Vladyslav Buvalkin.

In 2014, risking his own life, Kostiantyn rescued 29 Ukrainian soldiers from captivity.

In September, he received the Hryhoriy Marazli Order of the III degree. In 2015, he was a member of the Coordination Council for Patriotic Education of Children and Youth at the Odesa State Administration.

In June, the soloist of the Odesa National Opera and Ballet Theater , tenor Vladyslav Horai, died while performing his volunteer mission.

Also in June, the heart of writer and local historian Anatoliy Horbatiuk stopped beating at the age of 88. And in May, a man who was injured in a Russian missile attack on the port of Odesa on May 23 died in hospital and became the third victim of the attack.
