On the occasion of the Day of the Ukrainian Volunteer, which is celebrated today, March 14, a flower-laying ceremony was held at the Memorial to Fighters for Ukraine in the Park of Glory and Freedom in Odesa.

This was reported by the Odesa City Council.

It was on March 14, 2014, that the first volunteers left Maidan for the training base in Novi Petrivtsi, where they began preparing to participate in the fight for the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

During March, educational and library institutions will also hold cultural, artistic, scientific, educational and other events honoring volunteers - people who were not military by profession, but at a critical moment for the state, without summons or coercion, voluntarily took up arms to defend the country.

Earlier, trees were planted in Odesa to honor the memory of the fallen soldiers. Plaques with the names and years of life of the heroes whose lives were sacrificed for Ukraine's independence were placed on each tree.

Also on Volunteer Day and on the eve of the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a new part of the memorial "Wall of Memory" was unveiled in Odesa near the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine on Pastera Street. This wall is not only a place of mourning, but also a symbol of gratitude and honor to the fallen defenders of Ukraine.

An Alley of Memory was opened in Chornomorsk. It was set up in the Seaside Park by the sea and consists of stands with portraits of fallen soldiers.

Earlier, on August 29, the Heroes' Alley was opened in Shevchenko Park in Odesa on the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Ukraine. Currently, the Alley in Shevchenko Park contains more than 200 names, but unfortunately, there are many more dead.
