Moldova closes two border crossing points in Odesa region after Russian strikes

As a result of a December 18 drone strike on the bridge over the Dniester River on the Odesa-Reni highway near the Ukrainian village of Mayaki (Udobne) near the Ukrainian-Moldovan border, the Border Police of the Republic of Moldova announced the temporary closure of two border crossing points for security reasons.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the border crossing point "Mayaky-Udobne-Palanka" is only allowed for all types of vehicles to leave Ukraine for Moldova.

And also "Starokozache - Tudora" where the border crossing is allowed for all types of vehicles to leave Ukraine in the direction of Moldova, and for all types of vehicles to enter Ukraine from Moldova - for all types of vehicles traveling exclusively in the direction of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, Odesa region.

The Moldovan side also informed about the overloading of the Mohyliv-Podilskyi Otach checkpoint and recommended reorienting passenger traffic and freight traffic to alternative checkpoints on the border with the Republic of Moldova, in particular:

  • "Mamalyha - Kryva (on the border with Chernivtsi region),
  • "Sokyryany-Oknytsia (on the border with Chernivtsi region),
  • "Bronnytsia-Ungry (on the border with Vinnytsia region).

A temporary mobile camp has been set up near the Mayaky-Udobne-Palanka checkpoint, where people can get food and hot drinks. Therefore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommended that Ukrainian citizens refrain from traveling through the checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Moldovan border in Odesa region and use alternative routes on the border with Chernivtsi and Vinnytsia regions 🇺🇦🇲🇩
