Moldova asks Romania for help with electricity after Russian attacks in Odesa region

On December 6, Moldovan power grid operator Moldelectrica announced an emergency situation caused by the Russian Federation's nighttime strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, and therefore asked Romania for help.
This is stated in a message on the company's official Facebook page, according to the Suspilne media outlet.
The company confirmed that due to Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy system, an "important power unit" was shut down in the region, and interconnector lines are operating at maximum load.
"Moldelectrica has requested emergency assistance from Romania as a precautionary measure for the next few hours. This will ensure the safe operation of the electricity system and help prevent possible overloads," the statement said.
In addition, Moldelectrica urged citizens to consume electricity sparingly, especially during peak hours, to reduce the risk of overloads and possible blackouts.
Meanwhile, residents of Reni continue to complain about power outages and low voltage in the grid when power is restored. They also continued a flash mob to take pictures and publish the data.
Earlier, Oleksandr Urbanskyi, deputy head of the Odesa Regional Council, said that Reni, unlike Izmail, receives electricity from Moldova. The line should be up to 10 kilometers long to transmit power without strong fluctuations. The existing line is approximately 30 kilometers long, and this is why there are power surges and frequent blackouts. Unfortunately, this situation cannot be technically changed. According to him, the Reniia substation is expected to be restored in about 7-10 days.
