The Kherson region plans to create a register of children who ended up in the occupied territories after Russia's full-scale invasion.

This was announced by the head of the Kherson MVA Yaroslav Shanko.

According to the official, a special hotline will be launched to collect information about children in the occupied territories. The date of its launch and the start of the registry's work have not yet been announced.

The head of the KMCA noted that since the beginning of 2025, 171 children have been evacuated from the occupation to the territory controlled by Ukraine. As of October 2024, about 1.6 million children live in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. And as of August 2, 2025, 116 children have been returned from the occupied communities of Kherson region since the beginning of the year.

In August, another group of children from the occupied Kherson region returned home. This became possible thanks to the implementation of the Bring Kids Back UA initiative and the assistance of Save Ukraine. Now the boys and girls are undergoing rehabilitation, receiving psychological assistance, restoring their documents, and are able to continue their education.

Earlier, Ukraine Media Center presented an analytical study "Russia's Policy of Destroying the Identity of Children in the TOT of Ukraine: Results of 2024", according to which, as of October 2024, about 1.6 million children under the age of 18 live in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. According to the researchers, the largest number of children is in the occupied part of Donetsk region - 462,476. There are 310,227 in Luhansk region, 184,479 in Zaporizhzhia region, and 149,823 in Kherson region.
