In Crimea, the occupiers fined a local resident for supporting Ukraine

In the occupied Crimea, security forces detained 24-year-old Elnaz Charukhova, a resident of Skvortsovo village, Simferopol district, for supporting Ukraine, and later she was fined.
According to the Human Rights Protection Center ZMINA, this was reported by one of the Kremlin propagandists.
"The occupiers claim that a woman born in 2001 posted posts in support of Ukraine and "neo-Nazi slogans" on the Russian social network VKontakte. It is not specified what exactly these slogans were. The court imposed a fine of 50 thousand rubles. Elnaz refused to apologize," the statement reads.
Russian security forces are thus trying to intimidate local residents who have a pro-Ukrainian position, and use detentions, arrests, fines and long sentences for this purpose, the Center notes.
As a reminder, the trial of five Crimean Tatars accused of involvement in an alleged terrorist organization is underway in Russia. The case began in March 2024 after massive searches in the Dzhankoy and Bakhchisaray districts of Crimea. At that time, nine Crimean Tatars were detained, including activists, imams, and parents with many children. Some of them have serious health problems, including former imam Remzi Kurtnezirov, who was transferred to house arrest due to his critical condition.
All the defendants denied any involvement in terrorism and reported pressure from security forces, denial of medical care and other violations of their rights.
In addition, six Crimean Tatars have recently been sentenced to long prison terms in Russia - from 11 to 14 years - on trumped-up charges. They were accused of allegedly participating in a terrorist organization and preparing for a violent seizure of power. This is the so-calledHizb ut-Tahrir case. All six were detained in January 2023 after searches in the Dzhankoy district of Crimea and later transferred to Rostov-on-Don.
