In Bakhchisarai, occupation court extends arrest for defendants in the case of Crimean Muslims

The Southern District Military Court of Rostov-on-Don has extended the arrest of the defendants in the 'Hizb ut-Tahrir case'.

Abdulmedzhit Seytumerov, Ametkhan Umerov, Eldar Yakubov, Seydamet Mustafayev, Remzi Nimetullayev and Ruslan Asanov will remain in jail until November 23, 2025. The defense, referring to the lawyer Emil Kurbedinov, argues that the prosecutor's request for the extension of the arrest did not contain sufficient justification. According to the lawyer, the prosecution did not provide evidence that would justify the extension of detention, and did not explain why softer preventive measures, such as house arrest, could not be applied. The lawyers intend to appeal the court's decision. The next hearing is scheduled for August 18, during which the defense will begin presenting its evidence and questioning witnesses.
Hizb ut-Tahrir is an international Islamic political party founded in 1953 in East Jerusalem. Hizb ut-Tahrir is recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia.
The occupiers have opened more than 1300 cases in Crimea for discrediting the army. The Kremlin's repressive policy provides for punishment for any manifestation of Ukrainianness - from a comment on a social network to participation in human rights activities. For more than two years now, legislation on "discrediting the Russian army" has been in effect on the peninsula, which is used to suppress dissent. People are fined, searched, arrested and imprisoned for speaking out, singing, posting and even having sweets in their cells. More than 130 Crimean Tatars are behind bars, often on trumped-up charges.
