Two former judges of the Sudak and Kerch city courts of Crimea have been found guilty of treason.
According to the Kherson regional prosecutor's office, prosecutors proved in court that after the occupation of the peninsula, the convicts betrayed their oath of allegiance to the people of Ukraine and joined the enemy. In particular, one of them took the position of "deputy chairman" of the occupation Sudak City Court, and another became a "judge of the Kerch City Court of the Republic of Crimea". By administering "justice" on behalf and in the interests of the aggressor state, the convicts ensured the functioning of the occupation judiciary on the peninsula, and assisted representatives of the Russian Federation in conducting subversive activities against Ukraine.
Two former judges were convicted in absentia at the public prosecution of the autonomy's prosecutor's office. They were found guilty of treason and sentenced to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Earlier, in the temporarily occupied territory of Kherson region, the Security Service of Ukraine served a notice of suspicion to a person who performs the functions of a"judge" under the laws of the Russian Federation. The suspect is a former judge of the illegitimate Kyiv District Court of Simferopol. After the annexation of Crimea in 2014, he actively cooperated with the occupation authorities, performing tasks aimed at persecuting Ukrainian citizens on the peninsula.
Also, an occupation judge, who was prosecuting Ukrainians in Crimea, was sentenced to 13 years in prison for treason. Meanwhile, the Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea submitted to the court an indictment against two former SBU officers who, after the occupation of the peninsula, defected to Russia and began working for the Russian Federal Security Service in the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol. They are accused of persecuting Ukrainian journalists, illegally entering homes, conducting searches, and treason.
