Crimean deputy sentenced to 13 years for treason amid occupation

In the spring of 2014, the former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea of the VI convocation supported the decision of to hold a "pan-Crimean referendum".
According to the Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, in March 2014, the convict voted for a number of illegal resolutions to legitimize the occupation of the peninsula. These included support for the decision to hold an "all-Crimean referendum" and the adoption of the resolution "On the Declaration of Independence of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol", which provided for "the peninsula's entry into the Russian Federation as a subject of the Federation".

In addition, in April 2014, the "deputy" took part in an extraordinary meeting of the occupation State Council of the Republic of Crimea and voted for the approval of the "Constitution of the Republic of Crimea". Subsequently, in 2014-2021, the convict exercised the powers of a deputy of the "State Council of the Republic of Crimea" from the Crimean regional branch of the "United Russia" party, and in 2021-2022 - a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
Following a public prosecution by the autonomy's prosecutor's office, the man was found guilty of treason. He was sentenced to 13 years in prison. The prosecutor's office also noted that the convict is under international sanctions from the EU, the US, the UK, Australia, Japan, etc.
Earlier in court, prosecutors proved that after the occupation of the Crimean peninsula, two former judges of the Sudak and Kerch city courts of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea betrayed their oath of allegiance to the people of Ukraine and joined the enemy. The judge found them guilty of treason in absentia and sentenced them to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
