Starting August 1, 2025, the air raid alert system in Mykolaiv will be changed. In the city and the region, air raid alarms will now sound only in areas where there is a real threat to avoid unnecessary business and transport disruptions.
This was announced by Vitaliy Kim, head of the Mykolaiv Regional Air Defense Agency.
A new warning system is being introduced in Mykolaiv region to allow for more accurate reporting of threats. It includes three types of signals:
- one for the city of Mykolaiv,
- a separate alert for the region without the regional center,
- a general alert for the entire region, including Mykolaiv (as it was before).
The changes were made to help businesses operate without an urgent need. Vitaliy Kim explained that the system will be in test mode for the first few days, so there may be some malfunctions. He urged people to take it with understanding, as the equipment is old and they spent little on the changes.
Kim announced plans to introduce differentiated alarms at the end of June. This system will allow the alarm to be activated only in areas where there is a real threat.
The Mykolaiv region is regularly shelled, so the accuracy of airborne alarms is critical. In February alone, explosions were reported more than 400 times in Mykolaiv region. Previously, the signal was sent to the entire region at the same time, causing unnecessary business and transportation disruptions.
Meanwhile, in Yalta, the air raid alarm has not been activated since the beginning of the full-scale war - even during attacks on military facilities. The occupiers deliberately hush up the danger to create an illusion of calm for tourists and Russian propaganda.
