3 thousand schoolchildren returned to Mykolaiv region from abroad

In the current school year, 6,610 first-graders started school in Mykolaiv region, and most of them will study offline. In addition, 3,000 students who returned to Ukraine from abroad with their families have been enrolled in local schools.
This was reported by Alla Velikhovska, Director of the Education and Science Department of Mykolaiv Regional State Administration.
This school year, offline learning is prevalent in Mykolaiv region. Out of 397 educational institutions in the region, 179 will operate full-time, and 165 will operate in a mixed format. In total, 87% of the region's schools will return to normal education, as all of them are equipped with proven shelters that can accommodate all students and staff.
Special attention is paid to rebuilding schools in the de-occupied territories. Thus, 85 severely damaged institutions have already been restored. In those settlements where 35 schools were completely destroyed, modular schools were built with the help of the Danish Council.
The largest underground school was opened in Mykolaiv. Thanks to international partners and donors, two modernly equipped shelters were opened in Mykolaiv for the start of the new school year. The first one was opened in a joint educational space on the basis of a kindergarten and a gymnasium, and the second one was opened for another kindergarten in the city.
The shelter for the kindergarten became the largest educational underground space in the city and region. These shelters will enable more than 700 children to return to full-time education. The area of the two renovated locations exceeds 1700 square meters. The renovation work began in January 2025 and was completed in the summer.
These shelters allow classes to be held during air raids and have special areas for games, development and recreation for the youngest students.
