The Court of Appeal upheld the May 2, 2024, guilty verdict of the Lutsk City District Court against one of the ideologues of the Russian Spring and organizer of pro-Russian riots and separatist movements in Kherson, Georgy Tambovtsev.
The court of appeal found him guilty of working for the occupiers as a deputy of one of the so-called "ministers" of Kherson region, the Center for Public Investigations reported.
In an appeal against the verdict of the court of first instance, Tambovtsev's lawyer considered the verdict unfounded and in violation of the requirements of the criminal procedure law. It was argued that screenshots from social networks and publications from "unknown" sites allegedly could not be considered proper and admissible evidence, as they could have been created for the purpose of conducting information and psychological operations for Ukrainian citizens.
The point is that, despite this, the Court of Appeal called the arguments stated in the appeal groundless. The court also recalled the large amount of evidence available in the case and the testimony of witnesses who had personally known the accused for many years. Therefore, the Court of Appeal upheld the verdict of the court of first instance - seven years in prison with confiscation of property and a ban on holding public office for 15 years. The ruling of the Court of Appeal and the verdict of the Lutsk City District Court of May 2, 2024, came into force.
The court of the first instance found that Tambovtsev voluntarily went to serve the occupiers and on June 1, 2022, became the deputy head of the occupation department of youth policy, family and sports. Later, this department was reformatted into an illegal ministry, so the convict became the deputy of the so-called minister.
For reference: Heorhiy Tambovtsev is one of the ideologists and initiators of the Russian Spring, pro-Russian riots and separatist movements in Kherson. Before Russia's full-scale invasion, he was wanted by the SBU for recruiting people to join the ranks of the so-called "DPR" militants.
