The number of partners who will help provide fuel to the residents of Kherson region in winter will be increased.
This promise, according to Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, was made by the UN Resident Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs and Resident Coordinator in Ukraine , Mathias Schmale, during their meeting.
Prokudin added that they discussed further cooperation and the urgent needs of the region.
"The number one issue is preparation for the heating season. Currently, we have agreements with 21 organizations to provide local residents with solid fuel or vouchers for its purchase. However, the need remains urgent. Mr. Mathias promised to help increase the number of partners in this area," he said.
Prokudin also added that during the meeting they also discussed another painful issue for Kherson region - shelters in educational institutions for the safe education of children. It was also discussed that the Mission will continue to help the region in restoring water supply in the communities. They also discussed the development of green energy in Kherson region. Partners can also help protect civilians from enemy attacks and during evacuation. Therefore, they considered the possibility of providing armored vehicles and special vehicles for this purpose.
Earlier it was reported that a meeting with representatives of UNHCR and other partners was held to coordinate the distribution of aid between communities. It was agreed to allocate cash assistance in the amount of UAH 21,000 for almost 9,400 households in Bilozerska, Tyahynska, Stanislavska and Khersonska communities.
It was also discussed that the situation in Kherson and Kherson region remains difficult due to constant Russian shelling and the consequences of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant disaster. Therefore, a UN Office will soon be opened in Kherson.
