The Russian-controlled Supreme Court of Crimea upheld the complaint of lawyer Emil Kurbedinov against the decision of the Kirovsky District Court of Crimea, according to which he was denied the appeal against the fine for Crimean Tatar Emine Zekeryayeva.
This was reported by the Crimean Solidarity.
"The Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea agreed with the arguments of the defense, confirming that we had correctly calculated the appeal period, overturned the decision of the court of first instance and ordered the Kirovsky court to accept the appeal," Kurbedinov said and added that the defense would be separately informed when the appeal against the sentence for Zekeryayeva would be considered.
At the end of June, the Kirovsky District Court of Crimea, created by Russia, found Crimean Emine Zekeryayeva from Staryi Krym guilty in the case of"under-reporting" and fined her 50 thousand Russian rubles.
According to Russian investigators, in 2016, Zekeryaeva communicated on VKontakte with a Ukrainian citizen, Madina Stryapcha, who later went to Syria, joined an armed group there with goals that "contradict the interests of the Russian Federation" and allegedly planned to cooperate. The Crimean Tatar woman was accused of failing to provide investigators with information about Stryapcha during a search of her home in August 2023 and allegedly concealing this information.
On the morning of August 7, 2023, it became known that the house of 30-year-old Crimean Tatar Asan Zekeryayev was searched in Staryi Krym. After that, the man was taken away in an unknown direction. Later it became known that Zekeryaev's family was brought to Staryi Krym - their place of residence was searched again. The house was surrounded by armed men and armored vehicles.
After the search, detainee Asan Zekeriyev and his wife Emine Zekeriyeva were taken to Simferopol.
