During this year's autumn conscription, illegally conscripted recruits from the temporarily Russian-controlled territories of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions were sent to serve in the military units of the Russian armed forces located in occupied Crimea.
According to the activists of the international civil campaign #LiberateCrimea, Crimea, unfortunately, has become strongly integrated into neighboring Russia over the ten years of occupation, but mentally Crimeans are much closer to the residents of the occupied territories of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions than Russians.
"The Crimean commanders here know Ukrainian, so there will be no problems in communication. During their vacations, these guys will also feel more comfortable in Crimea than if they were somewhere in the Russian hinterland that is alien to them. In general, we hope for a gentle adaptation of these guys," the statement said.
Another reason for this decision, according to the activists, is a large shortage of military personnel in Russian units in the occupied Crimea due to their massive participation in the war against Ukraine.
As part of the forced passportization, Russians are also forcing Ukrainians to register with fake "military commissariats" while denying mobilization.
Earlier, the head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Refat Chubarov , said that the occupation authorities of Crimea are trying to form a special unit of the Russian Guard from the peninsula's residents. According to him, the occupation authorities are trying to form a special unit from Crimean residents, but it is unknown what tasks it is supposed to perform. Crimean Tatars are actively encouraged to join the Russian Guard.
It is known that at least 30 Crimean Tatars were killed on the front line in the war against Ukraine in March of this year.
Before that, the Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov spoke about a possible new wave of mobilization of the Crimean Tatars to the Russian army. In particular, the invaders may mobilize Crimean Tatars.
It was also said that about 50 thousand Crimean Tatars were forced to leave Crimea due to the actions of the occupiers. Before the Russian invasion in early 2014, about 300 thousand Crimean Tatars lived in Crimea. This is about 13% of the total population of the peninsula.
