TheSBU collected evidence against Russian Major General Mikhail Kalupin, commander of the 50th separate operational brigade of the southern district of the Russian National Guard.

According to the SBU in Kherson region, in February 2022, the Russian army general commanded six tactical groups that occupied the cities and villages of Kherson region. Under his leadership, the Nazis set up checkpoints on key transportation routes in the region, where the occupiers conducted illegal searches and detained civilians. On his orders, the invaders illegally detained civilians with a pro-Ukrainian position, subjecting them to severe torture.

Based on the evidence collected, SBU investigators notified Mikhail Kalupin of suspicion of waging an aggressive war committed by a group of people by prior conspiracy.

Earlier, based on the SBU materials, this Russian general was already served with a notice of suspicion in absentia on the fact of violation of the laws and customs of war. It was he who commanded the suppression of peaceful protests in Kherson against the Russian invaders in the spring of 2022. At that time, the Nazis used stun grenades and tear gas against the resistance movement. The invaders also beat Ukrainian citizens with rubber batons, and some of the victims sustained gunshot wounds.

In addition, during the peaceful protest, the invaders kidnapped its participants and took them to Russian torture chambers set up in seized buildings in the city. In this way, the racists imprisoned at least 11 people. The department has already sent an indictment for these crimes to court.
