A lieutenant general of the Russian army will be tried for the occupation of Kherson region and crimes against civilians.
This was reported by the press service of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office.
The report says that under the procedural guidance of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office, an indictment was sent to court against a lieutenant general, commander of the Ural District of the Russian Guard troops, on the fact of aggressive military actions (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 437 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The investigation established that from February to June 2022, the accused was sent by the highest military leadership of the Russian Federation to the territory of Kherson region to control the hostilities and ensure the occupation of settlements. For this purpose, he was appointed to the position of commander of a specially created auxiliary point of the "South" military command. The accused was under the command of at least four tactical groups, a special forces unit, an operational group and other units. He also coordinated the dispersal of peaceful protests, during which unarmed participants were subjected to brutality - they were detained, tortured and killed.
The special pre-trial investigation was conducted by the SBU in Kherson region.
