On the night of September 11, Russian occupation forces once again attacked Zmiinyi Island, located in Odesa region, from tactical aircraft.
This was reported by the Ukrainian Air Force Command.
According to the military, the occupiers fired six X-31P anti-radar missiles in the direction of Zmeinyi Island. The missile strikes were launched from the airspace over the Black Sea.
The day before, on the night of September 10, Russian troops also attacked Zmeinyi using an X-31 guided missile.
The air alert in Odesa region was announced at 23:35. The Air Force warned of the threat of missile attacks from tactical aircraft.
In total, on the night of September 11, the enemy struck with one Iskander-M ballistic missile from the Krasnodar Territory, two S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles from the occupied territory of Donetsk Oblast, six X-31P anti-radar missiles from the airspace over the Black Sea in the direction of Zmeinyi Island, and launched 25 Shahed attack drones (launch areas: Kursk, Yeysk - Russian Federation, Chauda - Crimea).
Aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, mobile fire groups and electronic warfare units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces were engaged to repel the air attack. As a result of the battle, 20 attack drones were destroyed, and 5 more were lost in Ukraine. There were no reports of casualties or damage.
The air defense systems were operating in Kyiv, Kherson, Cherkasy, Sumy, Dnipro, and Poltava regions.
The X-31 is a Soviet and now Russian medium-range tactical air-to-surface guided missile for fighter aircraft such as the MiG-29 and Su-27, but can also be fired from Su-24, Su-34, Su-35, and MiG-31. There are anti-ship (Kh-31A) and anti-radar (Kh-31P) versions of the missiles.
At the end of August, the Russians also attacked Zmeinyi Island with a missile, but then it was an X-22 designed to fight aircraft carriers.
