Based on SBU materials, a propagandist from Kherson, who provided media support in favor of Russia, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in absentia
This was reported by the press service of the security forces.
The post says that the Security Service has collected indisputable evidence of voluntary cooperation with the enemy of the Kherson collaborator, Hennadiy Shelestenko.
The investigation proved that after the seizure of the regional center, the man supported the armed aggression of the Russian Federation. For this, the occupation authorities appointed him "editor" of one of the local propaganda publications. It was established that in his publications Shelestenko "promoted" media images of the occupation leadership of the region to create the illusion of its legitimacy and positive image. He promoted hostile narratives in the information space, praising the invaders and justifying Russia's aggression against Ukraine. The convict also took part in pro-Russian rallies, where he called on Kherson residents to support the "new" government, assuring them that "there will be no more Ukraine." Shortly before the liberation of the right bank of the region, the collaborator fled the city. Currently, he continues to create fake news and conduct anti-Ukrainian propaganda, "touring" Russia and the temporarily occupied regions of Ukraine.
Thanks to the SBU, the court found Shelestenko guilty under Part 6 of Art. 111-1 (conducting information activities in cooperation with the aggressor state or occupation administration) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to 10 years in prison in absentia. The investigation was conducted by the SBU in Kherson region under the procedural supervision of the regional prosecutor's office.
Earlier it was reported that under the procedural supervision of the Kherson Regional and Genichesk District Prosecutor's Offices, a resident of the region was served in absentia a notice of suspicion of collaboration (Part 5 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). According to the investigation, in March 2023, the 68-year-old suspect voluntarily took the illegal position of "first deputy head of the Genichesk Military-Civilian Administration".
