On October 21, the Southern District Military Court of Rostov-on-Don held a preliminary hearing in the criminal case of Crimean Tatar activists and civilian journalists Memet Lumanov, Rustem Osmanov, Aziz Azizov and Mustafa Abduramanov. The invaders extended the preventive measure for the activists for another six months.
This was reported by Crimean Solidarity with reference to lawyer Edem Semedlyayev.
The post says that the court hearing was held on the initiative of the defense, which filed a number of motions.
"One of these motions was to return the entire criminal case to the prosecutor, because there are many unclear wording, such as "in an unspecified place", "at an unspecified time". There are a lot of such wording in the indictment," Edem Semedlyayev noted.
It is noted that the occupiers did not satisfy this petition and accepted the case file for proceedings. The court also granted the request of the invaders' prosecutor to extend the preventive measure for Memet Lumanov, Rustem Osmanov, Aziz Azizov and Mustafa Abduramanov for six months. The court decided to transfer the Crimean Tatars from the Crimean SIZO-2 in Simferopol to SIZO-1 in Rostov-on-Don.
The next hearing is scheduled for November 5.
On the morning of March 5, in the Bakhchisaray and Dzhankoy districts of Crimea, the occupiers searched the homes of 10 Crimean Tatars. On the same day, the "court" imposed a pre-trial restraint on four of them - Crimean Tatar activists Memet Lumanov, Aziz Azizov, Rustem Osmanov and Mustafa Abduramanov. They were sent to SIZO #2 until May 4, 2024.
Later, the "court" sent to the pre-trial detention center detained residents of Dzhankoy and Dzhankoy district - Enver Khalilayev, Nariman Ametov, Ali Mamutov, imam of the mosque in Lobanovo village Vahid Mustafayev and Arsen Kashka. The former imam Remzi Kurtnezirov was placed under house arrest due to numerous illnesses. The men are accused of participating in the Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir, which is banned in Russia and legally operates in many European countries.
