Since 2017, 10,018 violations of fundamental human rights have been recorded in the Russian-annexed Crimea, 6,730 of them against members of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people.
This was reported by the Crimean Tatar Resource Center (CTRC):
"Russia, in violation of international law, continues to carry out mass repressions and exert pressure on Crimean Tatars and pro-Ukrainian activists on the territory of the Crimean peninsula."
According to the CTRC, in 2017-2024, the following were recorded on the peninsula:
- 519 searches (362 against Crimean Tatars)
- 1599 detentions (1238 against Crimean Tatars)
- 1554 interrogations (1136 in relation to Crimean Tatars)
- 1579 arrests (1116 against Crimean Tatars)
- 3418 violations of the right to a fair trial (2137 against Crimean Tatars)
- 628 violations of the right to health (424 against Crimean Tatars)
- 404 transfers (317 for Crimean Tatars).
The Crimean Tatar Resource Center notes that this practice extends to the Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine in Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions, where Russian forces are also trying to intimidate people.
To mark the International Human Rights Day, which is celebrated on December 10, the CTRC is launching a social media storm"De-occupation of Crimea - return of human rights". They call on everyone to post on their social media one of the posters offered on their website, which were developed by activists of the international movement for the de-occupation of Crimea and solidarity with the Crimean Tatar people #LIBERATECRIMEA and designed by Ukrainian artist Andriy Yermolenko.
According to the Presidential Mission in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, as of November 4, the occupiers have illegally imprisoned 218 people on the peninsula, including 132 Crimean Tatars. Out of the total number, 43 are arrested (28 of them are Crimean Tatars), 151 are imprisoned (97 of them are Crimean Tatars), 26 are without status (6 of them are Crimean Tatars).
