Ukrainian special services detained an FSB agent who was adjusting missile and drone strikes on Mykolaiv and Odesa and forming a network for Russian intelligence.
According to the SBU, the detainee was a military pensioner from Mykolaiv region who was recruited by Russian intelligence services before the start of the full-scale war.
According to the agency, the man joined the FSB when he came to the attention of the occupiers during his trips to Russia. after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he was approached by an FSB officer who offered cooperation. In exchange for assistance in conducting intelligence activities, in particular in identifying points for missile and drone strikes, the man was promised "evacuation" to Russia and the solution of his material issues.
The SBU claims that the pensioner was collecting and transmitting the coordinates of objects in both cities that were used to launch strikes, including Shahed kamikaze drones and missiles. In addition, after arrivals, he conducted additional reconnaissance, informing the FSB about the consequences of the attacks.
In order to expand the capabilities of Russian intelligence, the agent also tried to find new candidates for cooperation with the FSB, including his friends, former law enforcement officers. During everyday conversations, he asked about the mood of current employees and passed the information to the Russians.
The security forces detained the man at his place of residence, seizing the cell phones and SIM cards he used to communicate with the occupiers. The detainee is suspected of high treason under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Recently, SBU officers exposed an agent group working for Russian military intelligence in the right-bank part of Kherson region. The group consisted of a married couple and their accomplice, who were collecting intelligence on Ukrainian military facilities.
In addition, a former Ukrainian Navy officer will be tried for treason and desertion. In March 2014, during the occupation of Crimea, the lieutenant colonel refused to obey orders and did not join the military unit, which was transferred to a new location.
