Member of Crimean parliament sentenced to prison term

A former deputy of the Crimean parliament was sentenced to 14 years in prison for treason.
This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol.
The report says that a former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea of the VI convocation was sentenced in absentia under public prosecution of the autonomy's prosecutor's office. He was found guilty of committing high treason (Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and sentenced to 14 years in prison.
Thus, prosecutors proved in court that in 2014, the convict, together with other members of the Crimean parliament, voted for the adoption of a number of illegal resolutions to legitimize the occupation of the peninsula by the Russian armed forces. These included support for the decision to hold a "Crimean referendum" and the adoption of the resolution "On the Declaration of Independence of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol", which provided for the "accession of the peninsula to the Russian Federation". Contrary to the resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, which terminated the powers of the deputies of the parliament of the autonomy, the former deputies voted for the adoption of the resolutions "On the Independence of Crimea" and "On the Succession of the Republic of Crimea".
In addition, in April 2014, the convict took part in an extraordinary meeting of the occupying State Council of the Republic of Crimea and voted for the "Constitution of the Republic of Crimea". Later he was elected a deputy of the "State Council of the Republic of Crimea" of the first convocation from the "United Russia" party. By his decisions, the convict assisted Russia in conducting subversive activities against Ukraine to the detriment of its sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability.
The press service noted that the Decree of the President of Ukraine of December 7, 2021, put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council, which imposed personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) on the convict.
The special pre-trial investigation was carried out by the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomy.
