Massive power outage in occupied Crimea: what is known about the causes

On the morning of December 20, a massive power outage occurred in Dzhankoy and Izumrudne village (occupied Crimea) due to an accident.

This is reported by Krym.Realii with reference to the occupation enterprise Krymenergo.

The causes of the accident are not specified. According to the occupiers' information, published at 10:33 local time, the power supply is planned to be restored within three hours.

Massive power outages in Crimea have recently become regular. Previously, the Russian authorities explained them by various reasons: in the summer - by abnormal heat, now - by technical accidents. At the same time, a possible reason for the interruptions is the damage to energy facilities in Russia, including the Rostov Nuclear Power Plant.

To solve the problems with electricity supply in Crimea, the governor of the peninsula, Sergey Aksyonov, said that Krymenergo would receive 50 million rubles from the funds seized after the "nationalization" of the property. Part of this money is planned to be spent on the installation of 16 transformer substations, several of which are to be commissioned by the end of 2024, and the rest in the first quarter of 2025.

As a result of today's intense shelling by Russian troops in Kherson region, about 60,000 customers were left without electricity. Damage to critical infrastructure caused power outages in the Shumensky, Zhytleselyshche, Tavriysky and Ostrovsky neighborhoods of Kherson. Residents of Bilozerka and Komyshany were also left without electricity.

Also today, enemy subversive and reconnaissance groups attempted to break through in the direction of Kherson, but were promptly detected and destroyed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The tense situation in the region will remain over the holidays. The head of the JFO urged residents to avoid staying outside unless necessary.
