In yet another attack, the Russian military struck a civilian vessel in the Black Sea that was transporting wheat to Egypt.
According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the attack took place immediately after the ship left Ukrainian territorial waters. According to preliminary reports, there were no casualties.
The Head of State emphasized that Ukraine is an important player in the global food market, and unimpeded exports through the Black Sea ensure food stability in many countries, especially in Africa and the Middle East. Protecting food supplies is a priority for Ukraine, as it affects the lives of millions of people around the world.
"Ukraine is one of the key global contributors to food security. Internal stability and the lives of dozens of countries in different parts of the world depend on the normal and unhindered operation of our export food corridor," the President said.
The Ukrainian authorities called on the international community to respond to the attack, emphasizing that food and food security should not be targeted by missile strikes.
