Environmentalists calculate the damage caused by a hit to a high-rise building in Chornomorsk

Russian ammunition hit a residential building and an unfinished three-story building in Chornomorsk on October 8 and 9, causing a fire that damaged the environment of Odesa region.
This was reported by the press service of the State Ecological Inspectorate of the Southwestern District.
The total area of the fire was 500 square meters, and the mass of carbon dioxide emissions that got into the air amounted to almost 39 tons.
According to the inspectorate's calculations, the total amount of damage is over UAH 120 thousand. The information about the damage was forwarded to the Operational Headquarters of the State Ecological Inspectorate of Ukraine to create a unified register of environmental damage caused by armed aggression.
On the night of October 8, during the Russian attack on Odesa region in Chornomorsk, apartments on several floors of an apartment building caught fire. As it turned out later, one of the apartments that was damaged by the shelling belonged to volunteer Kira Rodkina. According to the Air Force of Ukraine, on the night of October 8, 2024, the enemy attacked Odesa region with two Iskander-M ballistic missiles from the occupied Crimea, as well as 19 attack UAVs from Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Russia.
On October 9, Russian troops attacked Odesa region with attack drones. Five people were injured, three of them were hospitalized in moderate condition. The attic floor of an unfinished building caught fire. The fire was quickly extinguished over an area of 400 square meters. The glazing of the building of one of the medical institutions was damaged. The Air Force reported that 21 out of 22 drones were destroyed that night. The air defense system was operating in Odesa, Vinnytsia and Kyiv regions.
