Arsonist exposed in Odesa region: dark clothes, gasoline and gloves

A man who set fire to post offices and local government administrative buildings for a monetary reward has been exposed in Odesa region.

This was reported by the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office.

The man was a resident of Chornomorsk who received tasks from an unknown customer via messenger. He was promised money and assistance with traveling abroad in case of danger for carrying out the arson attacks.

The attacker acted cautiously: he wore dark clothes and gloves, and recorded his actions on video to report to the customer. From October to December 2024, he managed to set fire to several post offices and administrative buildings.

During the next arson attack, which was to take place in the building of the Pension Fund in the Ovidiopol district, the man was detained by law enforcement officers. He was served a notice of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine on intentional destruction of property by arson, which provides for a sentence of imprisonment for a term of three to ten years.The court chose custody as a measure of restraint.

Earlier, Intent wrote that a day earlier , police detained a 25-year-old resident of Odesa region on suspicion of setting fire to a post office.

In addition, in late November, police and the Security Service of Ukraine detained three residents of Odesa region, two of whom were teenagers, on suspicion of setting fire to a post office in Odesa district, allegedly on the order of a curator from the Russian Federation. The detainees are 15, 17, and 20 years old, and law enforcement officers found that the youngest of them received the order. He received an order from an unidentified person via one of the messengers to set fire to a post office in Odesa district for a monetary reward.
