Almost a third of the population remains in the right-bank part of Kherson region

As of September, the right-bank part of the Kherson region was home to one-third of the population that lived in this part of the region before Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

This was reported by Yaroslav Shanko, deputy head of the Kherson regional military administration, in an interview with IPC-South.

"Before the full-scale invasion, about 490 thousand people lived on the right bank of the Kherson region. Now, as of September 1, 2024, this figure is about 168 thousand residents, but if we compare it with 2023 and the overall dynamics of 2024, we can see the demographic situation changing in waves. It all depends on the intensity of the shelling that takes place on the territory of the region, including the city," said Mr. Shanko.

According to the official, the number of people increases in summer. He claims that if we observe the dynamics during the summer period of the year, we can note an increase in the number of people, as people return home to repair their buildings or take away necessary things, etc. At this time, the demographic indicator can grow.

As for the Kherson Community, Denys Putintsev, Director of the Media and Public Relations Department of the Kherson City Military Administration, said in an interview with Intent that from January 1 to September 8, 2024, 4995 people voluntarily evacuated. Of these, 2664 people were evacuated by train, including 383 children, 1167 women, and 163 people with disabilities. A bus evacuated 2331 people, including 324 children and 1368 women.

Earlier it was reported that under constant attacks by the Russian army, police officers continue to evacuate civilians from the coastal settlements of the right-bank Kherson region, which suffer from shelling on a daily basis. Another operation to rescue an 84-year-old man from Mykhaylivka, Beryslav district, almost ended in tragedy when Russians targeted the police with FPV drones.

It was also said that at the beginning of the year, since September 2023, more than 1,500 children had been evacuated from 42 coastal settlements in the region. Currently, there are no children in 27 of them. However, more than four hundred children remain in 15 settlements. Despite the forced evacuation, 94 children remained in communities where the security situation is extremely unfavorable.
