Ukraine has lodged a complaint against the offices of the Russian Automobile Federation in occupied Crimea

The Ukrainian Automobile Federation has filed an official complaint with the FIA Ethics Committee, calling for an urgent investigation into the activities of the Russian Automobile Federation. French lawyers are representing the Ukrainian federation in the case.

This was reported by the French publication Le Figaro.

The FAU has challenged the decisions of the World Motor Sport Council on August 3 and the FIA on August 13, which restored the right of Russian and Belarusian race car drivers to use their national flags and anthems during international competitions. These restrictions had been in place since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Separately, the Ukrainian side drew attention to the activities of the Russian Automobile Federation (RAF) in the temporarily occupied territories. According to the FAU, the Russian organization maintains illegal representative offices in occupied Crimea, as well as in the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.

The federation believes that such activities may violate FIA rules, under which only one national motorsports organization is recognized per country.

The contested decisions may also affect Russian race car drivers Robert Shwartzman and Daniil Kvyat. In 2024, Schwartzman competed under the Israeli flag as a reserve driver for Ferrari, while Kvyat raced under an Italian license as part of the Lamborghini Hypercar team.

The FAI has called on the FIA to investigate the RAF’s activities and determine whether they comply with international motorsport regulations.
