The "Sisters" women's soccer team defeated "Young Boys" and advanced to the European Cup

The Ukrainian runners-up from the Odessa-based soccer club "Sisters" defeated Switzerland's "Young Boys" and secured a spot in the second-most prestigious women's European club tournament—the European Cup.

This was reported by Ukrinform.

The match, which took place in Sankt Pölten, Austria, ended with a 3–1 victory for the Ukrainian team.

For “Sisters,” goals were scored by Yana Kalinina, who converted a penalty kick in the 49th minute, and Diana Tkachuk, who scored twice in the 54th and 61st minutes. The Swiss team’s only goal was scored by Ramona Bachmann in the 71st minute.

Despite a 0–5 loss to Portugal’s “Sporting” in their first match of the mini-tournament, the Odessa team managed to bounce back and secure their spot in the European Cup.

Earlier, the SeaSters women’s soccerteam from Odessafinished in second place in the Ukrainian Women’s Championship.

On May 18, the Odessa players faced Poltava’s “Vorskla” and won 3–0. Prior to that, both teams had the same number of wins in the championship. First place is held by Metalist 1925 Z from Kharkiv.

The SeaSters club wasofficially launched in the summer of 2023.Yevhen Dodurich, former coach of teams such as Women’s Football Club “Chornomorets” and FC “Palmira,” was appointed head coach.

The captain of the newly formed team is Ukrainian national teamforward Olga Boychenko, a multiple Ukrainian champion who has competed in the European Championship and reached the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League.

On August 26, 2023, the SeaSters played their first-ever official match, hosting “Kolos,” a Premier League team, in the round of 16 of the Ukrainian Cup. The game ended with a 0–2 victory for the more experienced team from Kovalevka.
