Ukraine's top-ranked player Elina Svitolina has won the WTA 250 tournament in Auckland, New Zealand.
In the final, the Ukrainian defeated China's Wang Xinyu, Suspilne.Sport reported.
For Svitolina, this is the 19th WTA title in her career and the first since April 2025, when she won the competition in Rouen. The final in Auckland was the 23rd in Svitolina's career, and she lost only four of them. At the same time, one of the four lost finals was in Auckland: in 2024 against Coco Goff.
Elina Svitolina from Odesa is a Ukrainian tennis player, the third ranked player in the WTA singles rankings in 2017, 2018 and 2019, bronze medalist of the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo (2021), champion of the final WTA Finals tournament in 2018.
In October 2025, Elina Svitolina won the Heart Award for her performance in the final of the Billie Jean King Cup 2025. It was the second time in 2025 that Svitolina won the Heart Award. In April, she won the award following the results of the Unofficial World Tennis Championships. Svitolina became the third Ukrainian woman to receive the award since its inception in 2009. Previously, it was won by Angelina Kalinina (2023) and Kateryna Bondarenko (2016).
In mid-September 2025, Svitolina played in the final tournament of the CBDT 2025 in Shenzhen as part of the Ukrainian national team.
Earlier, at the WTA250 tournament in Rouen, France ,Elina Svitolina, the 18th ranked player in the world, received the status of the first seed. This is due to the fact that most of her opponents played at the tournament in Stuttgart.
In May 2025, Elina Svitolina announced that she would not play at the WTA 500 series grass-court tournament in Strasbourg, France.
