From March 9 to 16, the Ukrainian Boxing Championship among men and women (elite) was held in Odesa. Mykolaiv region was represented at the competition by Maksym Zinevych, who won gold in the 75 kilogram weight category.
In a tense final fight, he defeated his rival from Kharkiv region, Vyacheslav Bryhadenko, and won. The new champion was coached by Vitaliy Bakalets.
Recently, Mykolaiv's Real GC suffered two defeats against Kyiv's Spartak GC in the eighth round of the Women's Super League of Handball, despite playing well. Meanwhile, at the Ukrainian Diving Cup, Mykolaiv athletes won several medals: Roman Galikberov won three awards, including silver in platform diving and synchronized diving, and Maksym Mirza won gold in 3-meter springboard diving.
The European Fencing Championships among cadets and juniors took place in Antalya, Turkey, from February 23 to March 2. Ukraine is represented at these competitions by five athletes from Mykolaiv: Victoria Korotchenko, Milana Stepovik, Daniil Skorokhod, Elizar Dyrda and Artem Korzhovoy-Lerner.
As part of the Physical Culture and Sports program, Mykolaiv plans to develop sports infrastructure, support rehabilitation activities, provide financial incentives for athletes and create conditions for inclusive physical activity, as well as provide logistical support for sports events.
Earlier, the Mykolaiv Sports College suffered significant damage during the shelling in 2022, forcing the institution to switch to distance learning. Thanks to international support, it was restored, and now 80% of students have returned to the full-time format.
