"Chornomorets eliminates Luhansk's Zorya from the Ukrainian Cup

Odesa football club Chornomorets defeated Zorya (Luhansk) at its stadium in a match held as part of the 1/32 finals of the Ukrainian First League Cup.

According to the press service of Chornomorets, the club beat the opponent 2-1.

Chornomorets' Maksym Lopyryonok scored the first goal in the 11th minute of the match, and in the 51st minute Pylyp Budkivsky of Zorya equalized. However, in the 78th minute , Oleksiy Khoblenko scored the winning goal for Chornomorsk.

In early August, Chornomorets played its first match of the season, which it also won 2-1. The opponent was Ternopil-based Niva. The match also took place at the Chornomorets stadium. Last season, Chornomorets played in the Ukrainian Premier League. However, after 30 matches, the team scored 23 points, took last place and ended up in the First League.

In June, three of the world's most prestigious individual football awards - the Golden Balls of Oleh Blokhin, Ihor Belanov, and Andriy Shevchenko - were brought to Odesa for display. "The Ballon d' Or is a football award founded by the French magazine France Football in 1956. It is awarded annually to the best player in the world (until 2007, the best player in Europe).

In May, the Odesa-based Chornomorets football team met with Dynamo Kyiv at its stadium as part of the Ukrainian Premier League championships. On May 13, the football club announced that it had received permission to hold a game with fans. In March 2024, Chornomorets football club received permission from the Odesa Military Administration to hold a UPL match with fans present at the stadium. At that time, Chornomorets hosted a match against NC Veres.

Due to the full-scale Russian invasion, fans were banned from visiting stadiums in Ukraine. However, in December 2023, the Ministry of Youth and Sports developed a procedure for coordinating and holding sports events with spectators.
