Ukrzaliznytsia has responded to an appeal by Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych to resume a nightly flight between Mykolaiv and Kyiv. The company said it understands the importance of such a connection for residents of the city and the region, but the schedule is currently being formed taking into account safety and technical factors.
Earlier, Sienkiewicz asked the carrier on Facebook to revise the schedule of the Mykolaiv-Kyiv train. According to him, after the night flight was canceled, passengers were left with only a daytime travel option, which creates inconvenience for those who travel to the capital for work, medical treatment, or family matters.
In its response to the mayor's post, Ukrzaliznytsia noted that the schedule planning takes into account the security situation in the region, the need for rolling stock maintenance, and safe working conditions for railroad workers.
The company reminded that the railway infrastructure of the Mykolaiv hub has been repeatedly threatened by Russian shelling. That is why special attention is being paid to minimizing risks for employees who prepare and maintain passenger trains when scheduling.
Ukrzaliznytsia also explained that the return of the night train will require a review of the entire train turnover. This may affect the schedule not only from Mykolaiv to Kyiv but also in the opposite direction, which will affect the convenience of other passengers.
At the same time, the company assured that the issue will be further studied by specialized experts during further analysis of timetables and transportation planning.
If there are opportunities to improve the rail connection between Mykolaiv and Kyiv, the relevant proposals will be considered.
As a reminder, on the morning of March 4, Russian occupation forces attacked Mykolaiv with attack drones. One of the drones crashed near a passenger train car, causing a fire and an injured person.
In addition, on March 12, Ukrzaliznytsia temporarily suspended train traffic on the Mykolaiv-Vantazhny - Bila Krynytsia route in Kherson region.
