In Kherson region, two local council members are to be tried on charges of collaborating with the occupation authorities and participating in illegal bodies of the Russian Federation.
According to the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office, indictments against a man and a woman have been sent to court on the facts of holding positions in illegal authorities (Part 1 of Article 28, Part 5 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, the 57-year-old defendant was a deputy of the Oleshky City Council from the OPFL party before the full-scale invasion. After the occupation, he stayed in the occupied city, joined the Russian party United Russia and in 2023 received a mandate in the so-called "council of deputies of the Aleshky municipal district".
Subsequently, the man became a member of the "counting commission" of the pseudo-body, which participated in the formation of the occupation authorities.
In addition, the court had previously found him guilty of collaboration and sentenced him to 9 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Another defendant is a 45-year-old deputy of the Vynohradiv village council. After the occupation, she also joined the party of the aggressor state and in 2024 became a "deputy" of the illegal council.
The woman was a member of several "commissions" of the pseudo-body, participated in propaganda activities, publicly supported the Russian army and spread propaganda among children in educational institutions.
Also, according to the investigation, she represented the occupied region at events with the participation of the Russian leadership and promoted the introduction of Russian standards in the social and educational spheres.
