On Saturday, August 23, rail service between Mykolaiv and Kherson was temporarily suspended due to an increased threat of Russian shelling.

Ukrzaliznytsia sent relevant notifications to passengers via its app, according to MykVisti.

This involves the cancellation of trains on the“Kherson–Mykolaiv–Kherson” route. The company explained the decision by citing information about an increased threat of shelling targeting Kherson and the railway infrastructure.

“For safety reasons, travel between Kherson and Mykolaiv today will be possible only by road,” the notice to passengers states.

Consequently, passengers who had planned to travel by train between the two cities on August 23 will have to opt for road transport.

However, the Ukrzaliznytsia announcement does not specify whether train service will resume on August 24. There is also no relevant information on the company’s website.

The decision to temporarily suspend service was made in light of a recent attack on the railway.

Today, in the Odesa region, a Russian strike drone struck the locomotive of passenger train No. 147 traveling from Zhytomyr to Odesa. Before the attack, Ukrzaliznytsia’s monitoring team issued an evacuation order in advance, and the train was urgently stopped on the tracks.

Earlier, in the Odesa region, the locomotive crew was killed instantly when a passenger train was struck by a precision-guided rocket-powered drone; passengers and the train crew were evacuated.
