Three former employees of the Kherson Detention Center have been charged in absentia with treason and collaboration with the occupying authorities. According to the investigation, after the city was seized, they took up positions at the detention center illegally established by the Russians.

This was reported by the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

According to investigators, in May and July 2022, three residents of the Kherson region, aged 31, 41, and 46, were appointed by the occupying authorities. They became so-called junior inspectors on duty at “Detention Center No. 1” within the illegal “Kherson Regional Penitentiary Service.”

Prior to the full-scale invasion, two women and one man had held positions with similar responsibilities at the Kherson Pretrial Detention Center. After defecting to the Russian Federation, they were dismissed from the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine.

According to law enforcement officials, while holding these positions under the occupation, the suspects ensured the facility’s operations. Specifically, they guarded and monitored detainees, conducted searches of cells, and inspected individuals upon their arrival at or departure from the detention center.
