A simultaneous chess match took place in Odesa, featuring children and veterans who defended Ukraine. The participants had the opportunity to test their skills and chess abilities in a game against Ukrainian chess player Natalia Zhukova.

According to an Intenta correspondent who attended the tournament, the event was held on 35 chessboards —symbolizing Ukraine’s 35 years of independence.

Children and veterans from Odesa took part. For them, it was an opportunity not only to play against a famous chess player but also to celebrate Ukraine’s Independence Day together.

The organizers noted that registration for the event was brisk, and there were many eager to participate. At the same time, anyone interested was welcome to come support the participants and watch the games.

Previously, a simultaneous chess exhibition featuring 40 children took place in Odesa on March 8, and five of the participants played to a draw against GrandmasterNatalia Zhukova.

In addition, a Halloween-themed chess tournamentwas heldin Odesa on November 2, 2024, with 73 participants—children, teenagers, and adult amateurs. The tournament participants were divided into three groups: children under 8, children aged 9 to 13, and teenagers and adults.

Everyone wore masks and costumes, received candy, and the winners were awarded medals and trophies. The youngest participant was 6 years old, and the oldest was 41. In general, the Odesa City Chess Federation holds small tournaments every week.

On July 16, 2023, a chess tournamentwas heldin Odesa, with 100 children participating. The tournament was dedicated to International Chess Day, which is celebrated worldwide and in Ukraine on July 20. The children played on the field of the “Chornomorets” stadium. When they announced registration for 100 participating children, the organizers were worried whether they would be able to recruit that many children eager to play, but they closed the list of participants within three days.
