The teacher who fell out of a school window in Odesa had not been instructed to wash the windows but did so on her own initiative. The State Labor Service is currently investigating the school, and no final conclusions have yet been reached regarding the causes of the accident.

Yulia Filler, director of the Department of Education and Science of the Odesa City Council, reported this in a comment to Intent .

According to her, the incident occurred on the teacher’s first day on the job and during working hours. At the time of the incident, the school principal was on vacation.

“Teachers were not given any instructions to wash the windows. The teacher, who is currently in the hospital, confirms this. According to her, it was her own initiative. The investigation is ongoing, so there is no final conclusion yet,” noted Yulia Filler.

The official reported that she personally visited the victim in the hospital. According to her, the woman’s condition is satisfactory. She suffered fractures of the heels on both feet, with one injury being more severe.

For now, doctors are refraining from surgery due to swelling. The decision on whether surgery is necessary will be made after a follow-up examination and consultations with several specialists.

According to the department director, following the accident, the school’s principal immediately arrived at the scene, called an ambulance, and accompanied the teacher to the hospital. The victim is currently receiving all necessary care, and her condition is being closely monitored.

Yulia Filler also emphasized that teachersare not permitted to be assigned to janitorial duties.

"Cleaners may wash windows only from the inside if this is specified in their job descriptions. Washing windows from the outside, especially on the second floor and above, constitutes work at heights and requires special permission. No one at the school has the right to force teachers to perform maintenance work,” she noted.

As a reminder, on August 4, at Elementary School No. 53 on 35B Heroiv Krut Street, a 34-year-old teacher was washing windows when she fell from the second floor of the building.

The victim was taken to CityHospitalNo. 10. Doctors diagnosed her with open fractures of both shins and severe traumatic shock. She is currently under medical supervision, and her condition is considered moderate.
